MountainWay Treks was born in 2011 from a simple yet profound realization: Tasmania's magnificent alpine landscapes deserved to be experienced by adventurers worldwide, guided by experts who truly understand and respect these pristine environments. Our founder, James Morrison, had spent over a decade exploring every ridge, valley, and peak across Tasmania's wilderness areas. After countless solo expeditions and informal trips with friends, he recognized that there was a significant gap in the adventure tourism market for professionally guided, environmentally responsible mountain trekking experiences.
What started as weekend expeditions with a handful of eager hikers quickly evolved into something much larger. Word spread about the exceptional quality of our guided treks, the depth of knowledge our guides provided, and the transformative experiences participants were having in the mountains. Within two years, we had expanded from offering occasional weekend hikes to operating year-round programs catering to various skill levels and interests.
The early years were challenging but rewarding. We invested heavily in guide training, safety equipment, and environmental education programs. We developed relationships with local conservation groups and indigenous communities, ensuring that our operations respected both the natural environment and the cultural significance of the lands we traverse. This commitment to excellence and sustainability became the foundation upon which MountainWay Treks built its reputation.
By 2015, we had established ourselves as Tasmania's premier mountain trekking company, recognized internationally for our expertise and dedication. We expanded our team to include certified wilderness first responders, professional photographers, environmental scientists, and logistics specialists. Each new team member brought unique skills and perspectives, enriching the experiences we could offer our clients.
Today, fifteen years since our founding, MountainWay Treks has guided over 5,000 adventurers from more than 40 countries through Tasmania's most spectacular mountain landscapes. We've developed specialized programs ranging from family-friendly day hikes to challenging multi-week expeditions, photography workshops to wilderness survival courses. Yet despite our growth, we've never lost sight of our core mission: to share our passion for the mountains while preserving them for future generations.
